My friend, Mairin, Passed Away This Evening. May She Rest In Peace!
Just two weeks after I took her to the A&E (Accident and Emergency), she has passed way this evening. After being in the A&E lying on a trolley for 16 hours, a bed was found for her in the hospital. It was obvious she was seriously ill and there was not going to be anything that could be done for her except keep her comfortable. After a few days in Hospital, Mairin was transferred to Our Lady's Hospice, "The Hospice for the Dying", as it's known as, locally. Here she was put on "palliative medicine" to ease her pain, and which put her into a deep sleep. There was very little communication from her, though she did recognize me when I visited her there for the first time. It was not possible to understand her attempts at speech. She did reach out her hand to me, despite being very weak. After that, no further communication. Mairin did not die alone. Her third cousin - next of kin - was with her, just four hours after I had been there. Rest in Peace, Mairin!
