Lamb fore shanks with English vegetables

For this recipe I have used lamb fore shanks, taken from the front leg. I find a whole leg shank tends to be too much for one person, whereas a fore shank, being smaller, provides the perfect amount. Ask your butcher for these if you can’t find them in the supermarket.

Mary Berry is now in her eighties - one of my fave celebrity cooks. This is one of my fave recipes ever.

I have a "Go Chef", from JML, in which I cook four lamb shanks. Great for family and friends!

I also have the Halowave Oven and the NicerDicer, as seen on this video: JML does well out of me. LOL!

A lamb chop is cut across the joint like a beef steak.
Leg of lamb is the whole hind leg complete with bone.
Lamb shanks are the front (fore) legs complete with bone.

Lamb shank is slow cooked for three/ four hours so that the meat falls off the bone. Delish!

I can't say which is better. It depends which suits your occasion. Leg of lamb is good for, like, the "Sunday roast". Lamb chops are good fried , grilled or in stews, depending which type they are. Lamb fore shanks are good as described.

One time I purchased a center cut lamb chop.
The cooked lamb meat did not taste soft.
I like my cooked meat to be easy to chew.

Sometimes, if lamb is over cooked, it can become tough. It depends a lot on the cut you buy. If you don't like lamb to be "chewy", then, probably the best is "lamb shank", cooked as in Mary Berry's recipe, [above].
