Firm warned of no fairytale ending if it destroys ring fort
Clare storyteller and friend of the fairies, Eddie Lenihan, has warned bad things will happen at the West Pharmaceutical Services factory in Waterford, if an ancient fairy fort is destroyed as part of the construction process.
In Ireland, there is a lot of superstiton surrounding fairy ring forts, which are circular mounds of earth, believed to be inhabited by fairies. More often than not, workers will refuse to demolish or remove them, for fear of some dreadful back luck overtaking them as a result.
Fairy rings take many forms. Usually they are undisturbed in the landsacape and whatever grows in a circle surrounding them is allowed to stay. It can be trees, shurbs or even mushroooms in a circle. Above it is a circle of willow trees.
