The map makes it very clear. I know that most transatlantic flights, from Shannon in Ireland, fly over Iceland and Greenland for some reason based on the curve of the Earth's surface. Seems that's the shortest route.
In Ireland we fall in with the rest of the EU and use the metric system, though most of us (older people) still think in terms of miles rather than kilometers.
