End of the traditional dog and bone? Britons now prefer text to making a phone call

A surge in the number of text messages sent across the UK has relegated traditional phone calling to a secondary option for adults.

According to research by watchdog Ofcom, sending an SMS or instant-style message is now more popular than ringing someone up or meeting them face-to-face.

I would prefer texting, but I don't even have a cel phone!

Where if they call I have a hands free set up in the car and SUV.

For that very reason, I think texts can be unreliable. I texted the person that was supposed to be collecting me from hospital and she didn't look at it. I was left standing on the side of the road, having had surgery, for 40 minutes.

Your friend perhaps didnt have a sound alert set for when a text arrives... I like texting, although I also like chatting on the phone too!

I am very sorry, I should have been paying more attention to my phone. That was thoughtless of me & it won't ever happen again.

Sometimes it's not possible to get an apology from the person, say they've passed on; but a surrogate can be used.
