I would love to have a dog, but there is a lot of responsibility with owning a dog. They are so dependent on us and need looking after when we have to be away - much more so than cats. That's why, for the moment, I'm sticking with Minnie, my cat.
Mattyboo1: Maybe one day you will change your thinking. At this time, I am not in a position to own a dog. I love dogs.
I hope this doesn't sound like bragging - but I seem to "have a way" with animals! Maybe it's because of having been brought up on a farm. Who knows! To give an example - last night, at the supermarket, a man was tethering his dog to a railing outside the door, while he intended going inside. I stopped to admire the dog, which is a black and white lurcher. I made a remark to the man that it was a lovely dog. I also remarked that it was a very cold night to be leaving the dog outside, without some sort of jacket. The man said they did have a jacket for him, but that this was only going to be a short trip. That was the end or that.
When I was on my way out of the supermarket, the dog was still tethered, where the man had left him. A woman was talking to the dog and trying to stroke him. The dog was cowering away for her and when she persisted, attempted to bite her. The woman walked off. I then spoke nicely to the dog. He started wagging his tail. I'm sure he would have allowed me to stroke him, had I tried. Confirms to me that I "have a way with animals"! LOL!
