Everyone needs a friend like this. Back in October, Seminole County Animal Services in Florida found a 2-year-old Dachshund protecting a 7-month-old paraplegic kitten by a gated driveway. The Doxie, later named Idgie, was guarding the cat, Ruth - barking and growling if someone came close. Ruth can only move by dragging herself with her front legs. "Both of them were found in fairly good shape, not filthy or malnourished, so it seems as though they probably had a home at some point," the shelter's Diane Gagliano told the Orlando Sentinel earlier this month.
That cat is lucky to have found a haven for life, as otherwise, her prognosis would not have been very good. I think most vets would have had to put her to sleep under normal circumstances.
Being a cynic,I even wonder about that shelter too. No doubt, they will have benefited well by this video having gone viral and the amount of publicity and donations they are likely to receive because of it.
Ruth actually looks quite like my feral cat, Charlie. While life is precious to all creatures, including us, I think it must be very difficult for poor Ruth. How can she go to the toilet properly, or groom herself, as all cats like to do?
